CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Glam-o-rama, a bi-annual event at the Marine Corps Exchange aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, is not only highlighting the fragrances and cosmetics available, they are also turning their attention to men with Guy-o-rama, a concurrent promotion highlighting products available to suit men’s needs.
“It’s the cosmetics departments’ time to shine,” said Brenda Leiva, an employee with a leading cosmetics company. “It really allows the consultants to have greater interaction with the customers.”
Many look forward to the program, said Catherine Bruggeman, manager of the MCX. It brings loyal customers in, while drawing in new cosmetic-lovers to the fold. There are drawings for prizes, samples, demonstrations and steep discounts across leading cosmetics companies.
“No store outside the gate offers discounts on these types of products,” said Bruggeman.
The cosmetics department employees work as a team, they don’t get commissions from sales, and if their products do not meet the customer’s needs, they will refer them to the company that will.
The ladies have many cosmetics, perfumes, skin, and hair care products available, along with many tools to give customers just the right look.
“Cosmetics are a good tool to help you feel good about yourself,” said Leiva. “Every woman is beautiful, but cosmetics help them feel more confident by enhancing their natural beauty. It can be a pick-me-up. If you feel like you look good, you feel better about your day.”
Sgt. Janna Fix, an accident investigator with Headquarters and Support Battalions’ Security Company, appreciates the individual guidance she gains from going to the makeup counter.
Fix found products she would pick at the grocery store or a drug store would have adverse effects on her skin. Since trying products at the cosmetics department with Leiva, she has noted a marked improvement and has become a loyal customer to a cosmetics company.
Although men do not have the makeup available to women, this Glam-o-rama highlights the needs of men with its Guy-o-rama promotions.
“More men are interested in skin protection, a lot of our products can protect their skin from the elements,” said Bruggeman.
There is also a marked interest in shaving products, a necessity for military men along with colognes, face, hair and body cleansers.
Glam-o-rama is scheduled to conclude Sept. 15 until spring. For more information about cosmetics call 451-5030 ext. 1051.
