WASHINGTON, D.C. — A native of Fayette, Mo., re-enlisted in the Marine Corps during a ceremony held at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Aug. 30.

Cpl. Ethon Daniels, a motor transport Marine stationed at Marine Barracks Washington, dedicated four more years to the United States of America.

“It’s a great and exciting day for me,” said the 22-year-old. “I chose the Jefferson Memorial because of the accomplishments in his career and the great things he achieved for this country while serving as the president of the United States.”

He said that the camaraderie he experienced in his two-year assignment to Okinawa, Japan, and his seven-month deployment to Afghanistan made his decision clear.

Daniels enlisted in the Corps October 2008 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. During his time at the Barracks, Daniels has driven in support of countless ceremonies, funerals and field exercises.

Barracks Marines support ceremonial and security missions around the nation’s Capitol. Each year, the Marines support more than 30 parades and hundreds of ceremonies and functions, to include funerals and sporting events across the country and globe while maintaining proficiency in their respective military professions and meeting their annual Marine Corps training requirements.

Throughout his career, the Fayette High School-graduate has been awarded numerous awards and commendations, to include a Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and NATO Medal.

Daniels said his goals in the next phase of his life include entering the Marine Security Guard program and completing a college degree in computer technology.

“I think becoming a Marine is something that would be beneficial for any youth considering it,” said Daniels. “It’s also a way to leave your town and gain life experience while serving your country.”
