SAGAMIHARA, Japan – Soldiers from the 325th Combat Support Hospital, 139th Medical Brigade, 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support), located in Independence, Missouri, set-up an 84 bed field hospital on Sagami (Army) General Depot, in Sagamihara Japan and were visited by Maj. Gen. Naoya Eguchi, chief of staff, Japan eastern army, here, Aug. 27.
This is the first of a series of visits by Japanese and U.S. distinguished visitors, military personnel, government officials, and local media scheduled over the next week.
The 84 bed configuration is one third of the 284 bed capability within the warehouses of Sagami General Depot and is part of Medical Exercise 2012, or MEDEX 12, a U.S. Army Pacific multi-component, joint service, bi-lateral exercise hosted by 18th Medical Command (Deployment Support), demonstrating the United State’s enduring commitment to Japan and the region, and ensuring the alliance is fully capable of meeting whatever medical challenges it may face during unforeseen events.
This is the first time in over a decade that a medical unit has exercised the use of Army Pre-positioned stock (APS) to demonstrate the available medical capability within the warehouses of Sagami (Army) General Depot.
The U. S. Army Medical Materiel Agency deployed a 15 man team, which can deploy all over the world to perform the same mission, to transfer the 84 bed hospital from the APS in the warehouses to the 325th Combat Support Hospital.
