ZHARAY PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Soldiers from Bravo Company, 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion received their deployment patches at a Patch Ceremony July 23 at Forward Operating Base Pasab, Zharay district, Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Deborah Ellis, the 502nd MI Bn. commander, personally visits the location of each company for the patching ceremony.
"I am very proud of them,” she said. “They completed a great deal of training prior to the deployment and after arriving in theater.”
The unit arrived in Afghanistan in early June and has maintained high spirits and morale, Ellis continued.
Only a portion of Bravo Company works at Pasab. The rest of the company is spread throughout Zharay in order to support all units of Task Force Fury.
“The soldiers love being here and are happy to put in the hours to accomplish the mission,” said Capt. Jeramy Wink, Bravo Company, 502nd MI Bn. Commander. My soldiers are motivated and are doing an outstanding job.”
“Our units motto, ‘the choice is yours’, has no hidden meaning,” Wink said. “My soldiers have the option to make the right decisions and they continue to do so every day.”
When speaking to his soldiers, Wink did not preach to them only as their commander. He approached his talk simply as a friend providing some important words of advice and wisdom.
“Not all soldiers have the privilege of earning a deployment patch, so wear this with pride,” Wink said.
The patching ceremony was interrupted by the base’s warning system when the “incoming alarm” sounded. Every soldier hit the deck for several minutes before running to the nearest bunker for safety.
“The events of today’s ceremony were fitting,” Wink said. “Soldiers were reminded to not become complacent no matter where they are.”
