CAMP NAVAJO TRAINING CENTER, Ariz. — The Arizona Army National Guard’s 160th Finance Detachment participated in a Military Operations in Urban Terrain exercise during their annual training here, June 22.
MOUT training is a valuable part of a soldier’s warrior skills. Though not a combat arms unit, the 160th geared up for a refresher course in MOUT tactics, comprehension and precision execution.
Capt. Brook Wiggins, commander, 160th Finance Detachment, oversaw and participated in the training of her unit.
“Even though we are a finance detachment, it is very important that the soldiers have a basic understanding of the Army warrior skills that they may be required to execute,” said Wiggins.
Although combat is not the primary tasking of a support unit, every Soldier needs to be combat ready.
“It’s important for every soldier to know the basics to be able to react,” said Spc. Timothy Gonzalez, 160th Finance Detachment. “Finance could be rolling out in a convoy and engaged.”
The trainers did a good job teaching proper techniques on how to clear a building, said Gonzalez. It was quality training, and coming from a combat military occupation specialty, it was a great refresher for him.
“The unit did very well on the training today,” said Wiggins. “They learned how to approach a building, learning to enter and clear it properly, and to maintain muzzle awareness at all times.”
Whether it’s clearing rooms or assisting soldiers with financial issues, the 160th Finance Detachment’s annual training enables them to be better and more productive citizen soldiers.
“The facilities here at Camp Navajo are an excellent place for soldiers to train,” said Wiggins. “Training is important; train towards how you wish to execute.”
