BALAD RUZ, Iraq – Approximately 150 local sheikhs, city council members and local citizens gathered for a town hall meeting with the governor of Diyala, the 5th Iraqi Army Division commander and the Provincial Director of Police "PDoP", in Balad Ruz, Iraq, Feb. 1.

Diyala governor, Governor Ra'ad Hameed Al-Mula Jowad Al-Tanimi, addressed services throughout the province; while Maj. Gen. Shakur Halaim Husain, the 5th IA commander, and Maj. Gen. Ghanem Abass Ibraham al-Qureshy, the PDoP, focused on security and efforts to defeat the terrorists and corruption.

Col. David W. Sutherland, the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division commander and senior U.S. Army officer in Diyala province, also attended the meeting, and spoke of the Coalition Forces' support to the Iraqi Security Forces and the innocent people of Diyala who wish to live in a democratic society.

"The people understand that security is linked to services, and services are linked to security. They want better services, and today, they had a chance to voice their concerns directly to the civilian and military leadership," Sutherland said.

"The terrorists are unable to drive a wedge between the people and the government while the government is willing to listen and take corrective action," he said.

In this particular meeting, the governor discussed the results of his recent trip to Baghdad and his meetings with many of the national government's ministers in order to fight for support and resources.

ISF from Diyala addressed their united partnership and teamwork to focus on combating terrorists in the province, as well as supporting food and fuel distribution.

After the meeting, the leaders gathered for a feast to continue their discussion and work toward a peaceful province.
