FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who died, May 26, from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident in Belton, Texas.
Spc. Travis Shane Penney, 22, whose home of record is Lubbock, Texas, entered active duty service in August 2008 as an infantryman. He was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since December 2011.
Penney deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2009 to January 2010. He also deployed in support of Operation New Dawn from May 2011 to December 2011.
Penney's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-Wheeled Vehicles.
