KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force congratulates Afghan border and customs police on their momentous seizure of 16,000 kilograms of ammonium chloride in Spin Boldak district, Kandahar province, Wednesday.

The 3rd Kandak Afghan Border Police Zone 3 and Afghan Customs Police discovered the cache of 342 bags in a truck while conducting a dismounted patrol. No friendly force or civilian casualties or damage were reported during the seizure.

Ammonium chloride has been used by insurgents to produce homemade explosives commonly found in improvised explosive devices. The seizure exemplifies the increasing professional capability of Afghan forces in stopping potential insurgent activity and to provide security throughout Afghanistan.
