Spin Boldak Police Training Center graduates new police recruits

SPIN BOLDAK-Afghanistan - The police training center in Spin Boldak graduated 334 Afghan National Police recruits from an ANP initial police training course, March 14.

Two-hundred twenty-three of the graduates will perform as Afghan Uniform Police patrolmen while the remaining 111 will work as Afghan Border Police patrolmen.

1st Lt. Mohammad Naim, Afghan Uniform Police site commander, addressed the graduates during their ceremony.

“You’ve trained hard during your time here,” said Naim. “When you are out doing your job, treat everyone with respect and you’ll gain the trust of your people.”

Sharing a similar sentiment at the ceremony was Lt. Col. Haji Janan, Afghan Border Police Quick Reaction Force commander.

“The people of Afghanistan respect your uniform,” said Janan. “Serve your country, do your job, and be proud to wear the uniform.”

Brig. Gen. Nasrullah Zarifi, Kandahar Regional Training Center commander, was also present at the ceremony. He explained how important it is to change certain mindsets after so many years of war.

“Fighting with guns will not give anyone good results,” said Zarifi. “The people of Afghanistan have seen enough sorrow. It’s time to bring our people together with pens and pencils; the proper way with the knowledge you’ve learned here.”

“A good policeman will show respect, especially for women, children and elders,” continued Zarifi. “Give people respect and people will give respect back.”

The ANP initial police training course was eight weeks long. Some of the subjects taught during the course were marching, self-defense, radio communications, firearms training, first aid, law, ethics and values, human rights and gender issues, duty at the police station, engaging the community, checkpoint operations, investigating common crimes, and response to terrorist incidents.
