JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. – Muffled sounds of music could be heard on what seemed to be an ordinary Tuesday in the office. Then, when the window was opened, holiday carols played by live musicians filled the building.

Three soldiers from the 56th Army Band, accompanied by one of their spouses, formed a quartet of horns and visited different units on Joint Base Lewis-McChord to surprise them with music, Dec. 13.

“We have a lot of fun spreading holiday cheer,” said Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Hite, a musician with the 56th. “This is our way to say thanks to all the soldiers who support us throughout the year. Without them we couldn’t do our jobs.”

The quartet included Hite and his wife Barbara along with two other musicians from the 56th, Sgt. 1st Class Dwain Graham and Staff Sgt. Luis Ortiz.

After playing for the Soldiers in I Corps’ Special Troops Battalion, the group picked up their instruments and moved on in hopes to fill some more soldiers day with their holiday cheer.
