PHILADELPHIA -- Pro vs. GI Joe, a non-profit organization, found a way to put all three of these together to help celebrate and recognize the sacrifice service members have made. The Pro vs. GI Joe organization, founded by Addie and Greg Zinone in 2007, set up a video-game competitions between professional athletes and troops.

Service members in the Philadelphia area got to experience this first-hand at the Philadelphia Eagles versus Chicago Bears Monday night football game, Nov. 7, with the Eagles providing prime tailgating space. Pros vs. GI Joes set up shop with a 45-foot customized gaming RV, where over 20 troops could play XBox, watch TV, participate in contests and raffles, and hang out. After the tailgating, they provided the service members with tickets on the field.

“The game and event were amazing,” said Spc. Ashley N. Slaymaker with the 223rd TC, Newton Square, Pa. “To be able to experience it for the first time with my unit and other military members made it even better. Simple opportunities like this help our morale and make us realize we are truly an outstanding country. We stand side by side and support one-another.”

Pro vs. GI Joe believes men and women, who voluntarily put themselves in harms way to defend our freedoms, deserve an opportunity unique to them.

“We aim to do something no other morale boosting organization does,” said Zinone. “We use the best technology to make virtual connections via video games and webcams, simultaneously, across the miles.” On Veterans Day, Pro vs. GI Joe will hold it’s 4th annual event where in-person and overseas troops (via XBox Live and webcam feeds from USO centers) compete against several of the Eagles players in games of Call of Duty. For troops who don’t play video games, they are still invited to hang out with the Eagles, get autographs and pictures, and hang out.

Pro vs. GI Joe has definitely lived up to their motto of “Doin' a little for those who do a lot.”
