VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Townsend, Del., native and Middletown High School class of 2004 graduate, Cpl. Rebekah Richard was presented with a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal during a formation at Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story, Va., Oct. 27.
Corporal Richard was awarded her medal for her exemplary performance of her duties while serving as an intelligence specialist with 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. from August 2009 to June 2011.
During this period, Richard organized, trained, led, and mentored a diverse group of intelligence Marines into a cohesive team that supported the commanding general of II MEF. Her efforts resulted in an increased and more refined understanding of threats to the stability of each geographic region to include individual regimes, transnational issues, insurgencies, political and military developments, developing crisis and military order of battle.
Her parents Bill and Nancy Richard reside in Smyrna, Delaware, which is nearby to her hometown of Townsend, Delaware.
Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and advisor support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
