PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – An Afghan Uniformed Police Special Tactics Team captured a Taliban facilitator and an indirect fire cell leader, Chamkani district, Oct. 30.

The STT positively identified and detained Alisha Khan and Norah Khan after receiving reports the two insurgents would be near the Chamkani bazaar.

“The STT’s quick response to intelligence reports was critical to the safe capture of these insurgent leaders,” said a member of the coalition special operations team partnered with the STT. “This will have a huge impact in reducing civilian casualties caused by the insurgents’ indiscriminate targeting of coalition forces with indirect fires in the area.”

Alisha Khan facilitates financing, intelligence collection and supply operations for the insurgency in Chamkani district. He is also known to provide instruction in the use of mortars and act as a forward observer for mortar attacks against coalition and Afghan security forces in and around the Chamkani bazaar.

Norah Khan is an insurgent cell leader responsible for indirect fire attacks against coalition and Afghan security forces in Chamkani district. He assists in the operation of an early warning intelligence collection network focused on coalition forces in the district and smuggles weapons from Pakistan into eastern Paktya to support the insurgency.

Both men are in the custody of the Chamkani AUP STT awaiting transfer to a coalition detention facility. No civilian casualties or property damage resulted from their capture.
