FORT KNOX, Ky. -- U.S. Army NASCAR driver Ryan Newman was a front runner until getting spun out on Lap 80 of 188 in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Newman's No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet suffered major front-end damage and settled for a disappointing 38th-place finish in the fourth and final restrictor-plate race of the season.

The result dropped Newman from 10th to 12th in the Chase driver point standings with four races remaining in the season.

The next Sprint Cup race is Sunday (Oct. 30) at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway short track.

The U.S. Army NHRA team of Top Fuel drivers Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown was idle this weekend. The NHRA tour will be in action this coming weekend (Oct. 28-30) at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

With two NHRA races remaining in the 2011 season, Brown leads the Top Fuel category in the Countdown to 1 driver points while Schumacher is fifth and with a mathematical possibility of winning his eighth world championship.
