FORT STORY, Va. - Bertha, Minn., native and Bertha-Hewitt High School graduate class of 2008, Marine Cpl. Johnathan Woelfel was meritoriously promoted to his current rank during a ceremony at Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group (MCSCG, which was formerly known as Marine Corp Training and Advisory Group) aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., Oct. 3.
Woelfel, who is currently serving as a fiscal clerk with the logistics and embarkation section of MCSCG, was identified and selected by the command’s leadership for having a collective standard of proficiency and leadership that exceeded all of his peers and therefore best qualified to get promoted.
Since checking into MCSCG in March of 2010, Woelfel has been nothing less than outstanding, according to one of his supervisors. Prior to checking into MCTAG, Woelfel graduated from the Financial Management Resource Analyst course in Camp Johnson, N.C.
Woelfel is also the current Marine of the Quarter at the unit. He was selected over the summer when he won a three-day competition.
His father Mark Woelfel still resides in the Bertha area, and his mother Virginia Woelfel resides in the Chaska, Minn., area.
