AL-ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq - Soldiers stood at attention with their guidons rolled waiting for the signal to unfurl them during an uncasing ceremony at Al-Asad Air Base, Iraq, Sept. 2. The Regulars, 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, have deployed in support of Operation New Dawn.

The battalion deployed with 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, but is now under the tactical control of the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. The 4-6 Infantry has been tasked with advising, training, and assisting the 7th Iraqi Army Division while also enabling the withdraw of U.S. forces from Iraq.

“In my three tours here in Iraq this was the most professional and complete transfer of authority process I have experienced,” said, Lt. Col. Andy Morgado, commander of the 4-6 Infantry.

During the ceremony the 4-6 Infantry colors were uncased by the command team, Morgado and Command Sgt. Maj. Isaac Ragusa. This act symbolized the 4-6 Infantry taking responsibility for the mission held by 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade.

“This is a historic event for the 6th Infantry Regiment as we uncase our colors and assume a important mission in support of our Iraqi brothers,” said Morgado.
