ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Army Brig. Gen. David J. Elicerio was promoted to major general, Aug. 7, 2011, at a ceremony at the Rosemount National Guard Armory.

“Thanks for being a part of my Army family,” Elicerio said to the large group of airmen and soldiers from across the state in attendance at the promotion ceremony in the armory auditorium.

Army Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash, Minnesota National Guard adjutant general, “pinned” the two star designation on Elicerio. Elicerio was then handed his two star flag, via Nash, from Command Sgt. Maj. Doug Julin, 34th Infantry Division Command sergeant major.

"Brig. Gen. Elicerio has worked for me in Bosnia, Iraq and Minnesota and his talent as a leader is unsurpassed," said Nash.

Residing in Ham Lake, Elicerio has been a member of the Minnesota National Guard since 1980. Currently, he is the commanding general of more than 10,000 soldiers in the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division.

Elicerio served as the chief of joint military affairs during the Minnesota National Guard’s peacekeeping mission to Bosnia in 2003. He commanded the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 34th Infantry Division during their historic 16-month deployment. Before taking command of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, Elicerio served as the deputy commander for the division and completed his second tour to Iraq.

“Try to do the right thing today,” said Elicerio. “You’ve got to be good at what you do and outlast a few of them,” said Elicerio with a smile about what it took for him to get to this stage of his career.

"I have witnessed first hand his talented commitment and this promotion is well-deserved," said Nash.
