BALAD, Iraq (July 27, 2006) --The only regret a senior noncommissioned officer had with his latest promotion was that his wife and family weren't there to see it.
Newly promoted Master Sgt. David M. Arbelle, Company G, 64th Brigade Support Battalion, thanked his fellow Soldiers, God and his wife for helping achieve his current rank during a ceremony here. He serves as motor sergeant for 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Band of Brothers.
"It's special to be promoted in front of people I have worked with for 19 years," Arbelle said. "My only regret is that my wife wasn't here to see it."
Arbelle took time to thank his family and his Lord for his success. He said he had achieved his current status with the help of a lot of people along the way.
"I'd like to thank my wife, Claudia," Arbelle said. "She's a wonderful woman and I couldn't have done any of this without her.
"I want to thank the Lord for giving me the strength to hang in there for 19 years. Hopefully, I can go a couple of more to serve you better."
A New Orleans native, Arbelle is a 1985 Jon Ehret High School. He attended college at Delgado University for one year before joining the Army in 1987.
Besides his current tour in Iraq with the Fort Carson, Colorado-based 4th Infantry Division, Arbelle has also served overseas in Germany and Korea. His stateside tours have included Fort Stewart, Ga., and Fort Dix, N.J.
"I've worked as a cannon crewmember every day for the past 19 years," Arbelle said. "I'm going to keep supporting you with everything I've got until I retire. My loyalty is with you."
Arbelle is a valued member of Task Force Pacesetter, which is compromised primarily of 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Soldiers. The task force's commander, Lt. Col. Jeffery Vuono, said Arbelle is a good influence those around him.
"You always see a smile on his face," Vuono said. "This is the type of noncommissioned officer who is going to continue to do great things.
"I'm proud to promote him to master sergeant."
Vuono said he expected his new rank would give Arbelle an even greater opportunity to serve his fellow Soldiers. He joined Arbelle's commander, Capt. Geraldo Perolta, in applying his new rank insignia on Arbelle's Army Combat Uniform.
"You've given us great support," Vuono said. "We couldn't have asked for better the past two years."
