URUZGAN, Afghanistan – Non-governmental organizations and coalition Civil Affairs teams are working to improve development in the Shahid-e-Hassas District.
The projects are part of an ongoing initiative to bring more development to the district. Schools, roads, agricultural projects, and other infrastructure have taken shape over the past six months, according to district government officials.
Civil Affairs team members said there are more than 500 people working on road projects in the area.
“The road projects will improve commerce and trade, as well as provide a better route for Afghan forces to maneuver and patrol,” said District Development Assembly Chief Abdul Samad. “Employing local people builds confidence in the Government of Afghanistan’s commitment to foster economic development, which impacts security in this area.”
The projects are helping to connect the Afghan Government to people at the village level, said a district official.
“We are working towards more functional governmental facilities and secure transportation,” said Samad. “Improved security is the reason people in this area are able to enhance economic vitality.”
