Cultural Support Team conducts women’s shura and medical clinic in Gizab
URUZGAN, Afghanistan - A coalition cultural support team assisted by Afghan forces, held a women’s shura and medical clinic in the Nikuzai village of Uruzgan province, April 14.
The purpose of the event was to build rapport, encourage information flow, and build relationships with the female population in the area.
At the clinic, Afghan and coalition medics examined and treated women and children. The medics also discussed preventive health initiatives and distributed handbills with visual instructions on how to avoid dehydration.
During the shura, the more than 40 local women in attendance discussed security, government, and women’s issues, establishing confidence and positive relations between the local female population and Afghan and coalition forces, said a coalition cultural support team member on the scene.
“The engagement was a great success,” said the team member. “We increased our awareness of local issues so we can better assist the female populace in this community. The women were happy to meet with us and are excited to work with us in the future.”
