    Afghan police, U.S. Special Forces remove numerous roadside bombs in Kandahar

    KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Police safely neutralized an improvised explosive device discovered along a well-travelled road while patrolling southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, April 9.

    The IED, which was planted in northern Kandahar’s Khakrez district, included two 82 mm mortars and one jug filled with homemade explosives.

    Elsewhere in Kandahar, members of the Afghan national civil order police, Afghan local police and U.S. service members with Special Operations Task Force – South discovered a cache of materials used for the manufacturing of improvised explosive devices during a patrol in Panjwai District, April 9.

    Afghan police units that are partnered with SOTF-South have located 11 IEDs in Kandahar since April 1. Nearly half of those have been located with the help of Afghan villagers throughout Kandahar province.

    All of the explosives were destroyed in a safe location away from civilians.
