KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – An Afghan child, while tending his family’s flock of sheep, was killed after he stepped on an insurgent improvised explosive device Feb. 21 in the Arghestan District of Kandahar province, Afghanistan.
After the child struck the device, Afghan National Security Forces moved the then wounded child to the location of U.S. Special Forces soldiers assigned to Special Operations Task Force – South in order to get him immediate medical treatment.
Coalition forces medically evacuated the boy and his father to an area hospital where the child later died from his wounds.
The USSF team leader on scene said that the “ANSF are providing the family with food and provisions and are assisting with the funeral process.”
