CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead, named Col. Luke Reiner as Wyoming’s next adjutant general, the commander for the Wyoming National Guard, Feb. 18.

Reiner will assume the position from Maj. Gen. Ed Wright, Wyoming’s current adjutant general, April 1, at 2 p.m., in the ballroom at Little America, in Cheyenne. Wright’s retirement ceremony will follow.

“Col. Reiner will make an excellent leader for the Wyoming Military Department,” Wright said. “I’m confident our Soldiers and Airmen will continue to excel in their state and federal missions under his direction.”

Reiner currently serves as the Wyoming National Guard’s chief of the joint staff, a position he has held since July 2009. He joined the Wyoming National Guard in 1987, after serving for five years in the Nebraska Army National Guard.

“I’m humbled by the trust Gov. Mead has shown in me to lead this organization,” Reiner said. “I look forward to continuing to serve with the men and women who do their best to protect the residents of this great state and the citizens of our nation.”

As the adjutant general, Reiner will be the director of the Wyoming Military Department, commanding the Wyoming Army National Guard and Wyoming Air National Guard, as well as overseeing the Wyoming Veterans Commission, the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery and the state agency functions related to those departments.

Details on Reiner’s assumption of command will follow closer to April.
