KABUL, Afghanistan– Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban leader involved in kidnapping for ransom during an operation in Wardak province on Dec. 1.

The targeted individual is reportedly also an improvised explosive device and weapons facilitator in Sayyidabad District.

Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound in Sayyidabad to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before the joint security force cleared the compound. During initial questioning at the scene, the Taliban leader identified himself as the targeted individual in the operation before he was detained along with one of his associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they ensured the safety of the women and children for the duration of the search.
