KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces conducted an operation in Khost province last night capturing a Haqqani Network leader, who is possibly responsible for attacks on Bak District centers.

The targeted individual facilitated the movement of improvised explosive device materials in addition to emplacing the weapons in public areas in Terayzai District.

Intelligence information led the security force to a compound in Serkay in Bak District to search for the individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the area. The security force identified and detained the Haqqani leader along with more than 10 of his associates after finding multiple weapons and conducting initial questioning at the scene.

The assault force conducted the operation with no shots fired and they ensured the safety of the women and children throughout the search.
