BRIDGEPORT, Calif. — Soldiers assigned to the 609th Engineer Company conducted cliff rappelling training from an 80-foot rock face during Operation Desert Forge 2026 in Bridgeport, California, June 11, 2026.
The training challenged soldiers to build confidence in vertical mobility techniques and enhance their ability to operate in rugged, mountainous terrain. Participants practiced safe rappelling procedures and teamwork while navigating the steep descent.
During the visit, Nevada National Guard Land Component Commander Brig. Gen. Randy Lau recognized outstanding soldiers and participated in a reenlistment ceremony for Spc. Childers. In a display of military ingenuity, soldiers improvised by using an American flag shoulder patch as Childers took the oath of enlistment, reaffirming his commitment to continued service.
Lau also presented challenge coins to four soldiers in recognition of their exceptional performance, dedication, and contributions during Operation Desert Forge 2026.
