West Coast Blood Drive Strengthens Lifeline for America’s Warfighters

The Armed Services Blood Bank Center – Pacific Northwest (ASBBC-PNW) successfully hosted the West Coast Blood Drive during the first week of May 2026, bringing together service members, civilians, students, faculty, and community supporters across multiple military installations in California. The large-scale effort included blood drives at the Presidio of Monterey’s Defense Language Institute (DLI) and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), and at Travis Air Force Base (AFB), all united under one mission: ensuring a ready and reliable blood supply for America’s military community.

The week proved to be an overwhelming success, particularly at the Presidio of Monterey, where the Defense Language Institute community demonstrated extraordinary support through strong donor turnout and enthusiastic participation. Service members, staff, and students stepped forward in large numbers to donate blood in support of fellow warfighters serving around the globe.

The ASBBC-PNW and the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) extends sincere appreciation to the leadership and communities at the Naval Postgraduate School and Travis Air Force Base for their continued partnership and steadfast support of military blood collections. Their commitment plays a critical role in sustaining lifesaving medical capabilities for service members, retirees, military families, and deployed forces worldwide.

Military blood collections remain essential to the Department of War medical mission. Blood products collected through the ASBP are used to support combat operations, emergency surgeries, cancer treatments, traumatic injuries, and routine medical care both overseas and here at home. Unlike civilian blood programs, the ASBP directly supports military medical operations and maintains the capability to provide blood products to deployed locations where every unit can mean the difference between life and death.

Every donation made during the West Coast Blood Drive directly contributes to maintaining mission readiness and supporting the health of the joint force. From training environments to operational theaters, the need for blood never stops, and the generosity of donors ensures military medical teams can continue saving lives whenever and wherever needed.

The energy and momentum generated during this year’s event have already created excitement for the next West Coast Blood Drive scheduled for December 2026, with official dates to be announced in the coming months. Building on the tremendous success of the May campaign, the ASBBC-PNW looks forward to expanding participation and continuing to strengthen the culture of donation across the West Coast military community.

The Armed Services Blood Program thanks every donor, volunteer, organizer, and supporting command who made the West Coast Blood Drive a success. Together, we continue to embody the mission: “From Us, For Us”, ensuring our military community remains ready to care for its own.
