KABUL- Initial reports indicate a protest of approximately 100 Afghan civilians turned violent when protesters began throwing rocks at coalition forces guarding Forward Operating Base Mirwais in the Chorah District of Uruzgan province today.

According to reports, a protester aimed an AK-47 at International Security Assistance Force service members located in a guard tower.

An ISAF service member shot the man in accordance with the rules of engagement.

Protesters pulled the man away before ISAF service members were able to identify his status.

The protest is reported to have been held in response to an alleged Quran burning inside of the FOB Wednesday.

The suspected burning was a routine burn-pit session in which ISAF documents are destroyed.
