SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – The 58th Military Police Company, 728th Military Police Battalion, received the prestigious Maj. Gen. Harry H. Bandholtz Award for Best Active Light Component, Modified Table of Organization and Equipment (MTOE) military police company.
The Bandholtz Award honors the top military police units across the U.S. Army in various categories for demonstrating the professionalism, discipline, and excellence that MG Bandholtz championed.
“Winning the MG Bandholtz Award is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and professionalism of every Soldier in the 58th Military Police Company,” Cpt. Dennis Ahn, commander, 58th MP Co., 728th MP Bn., 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, said. “It signifies that our company is not only meeting but exceeding the standards of excellence expected of the Military Police Corps.”
In 1918, Bandholtz became the Provost Marshal General of the American Expeditionary Force, revolutionizing military policing by creating the Division of Criminal Investigations. His efforts laid the groundwork for the eventual formation of the Military Police Corps in 1941. The 58th MP Company’s achievement highlights their effectiveness throughout the Pacific theater.
“As the commander, I emphasize the connection between readiness, performance, and mission success through consistent communication, rigorous training, and leading by example,” Ahn said. “I ensure that every Soldier understands their role in the larger mission and how their individual readiness contributes to the company’s overall effectiveness.”
For an MP company to be considered for the awards, they are required to submit a packet that evaluates their organization on several criteria: cohesiveness, fitness, discipline, readiness and deployability, MP focus and innovation, MP history, MP training, and telling their company’s and the Army’s story.
“I feel it’s important to show the regiment everything we have accomplished over the past year and how the regiment as a whole can learn from a single company,” 1st Lt. Nicholas Sugg, platoon leader, 58th MP Company, said. “From Pacific Pathways support, Talisman Saber [in Australia], fielding and testing revolutionary technology, to supporting the local Hawaii community and the Hawaii Garrison as well.”
The Soldiers of the “Workhorse” company remain humbled and continue to focus on elevating the standard through readiness, lethality, and teamwork.
“Recognition at this level reinforces to our Soldiers that their hard work and dedication matter. It strengthens pride within the formation and motivates everyone to continue raising the standard,” 1st Sgt. Kenwyn Peters Jr., First Sergeant, 58th MP Company. “While awards are appreciated, our Soldiers remain focused on the mission. This recognition will drive continued excellence across the company as we strive to remain disciplined, ready, and lethal.”
