Nashville Navy Recruiter Awarded Recruiter of the Year

U.S. Navy story by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Samuel Osborn
Nashville, Tennessee, Navy Assistant Nuclear Field Coordinator was awarded Nuclear Field Coordinator of the Year by Rear Adm. James Waters, Dec. 12.
Machinist Mate (Nuclear) 1st Class Robert Hines, from North Carolina, and a recruiter at Navy Talent Acquisition Group Nashville, spearheaded an aggressive prospecting plan for six Nuclear Field Specialists resulting in 204 Nuclear contracts.
“Earning this title is a great honor,” said Hines. “My hope is to show the next generation of recruiters that hard work gets recognized and it inspires them to push themselves above and beyond the minimum standards that we are prescribed.”
Hines’ focus remains on the individual and seeks to ensure long lasting success in the fleet.
“I talk to the many applicants and nuclear future Sailors. We’ll talk about questions they may have on the Navy’s nuclear program, life onboard ships, and other opportunities they could pursue while in the nuclear program,” said Hines. “At the end of the day, I want to be able to return to the fleet and see the success of these individuals and know that they got the best possible option out of the Navy.”
Hines believes that without his team, this accomplishment would not have been possible.
“I attribute a lot of our success to our Nuclear Scouts who extend our reach to help find qualified nuclear applicants,” said Hines. “The nuclear field is hard, it requires academic excellence and strict procedural compliance. The scouts are the ones who locate and begin communication with those individuals to help them along this career path, encouraging them along the way and giving them the tools for success.”
For Hines, the most rewarding part of the job is giving back to his beloved community.
“The best part of my job is getting to directly affect the nuclear community even while I am in port at a recruiting command. Through recruiting, I get to find high quality individuals who make the community stronger and more capable.”
The recruiter of the year award program recognizes the nation’s top Navy recruiters for their talent acquisition expertise, positive impact on local communities, and upholding the highest Navy values. Hines’ specific field of recruiting searches for and educates individuals on the enlisted Naval nuclear programs. The program offers extensive training as nuclear propulsion plant operators and technicians to young men and women with strong aptitude in mathematics and science.
