SrA Damien Stevens, 105th Comptroller Flight financial management technician, enlisted in the New York Air National Guard, here at the 105th Airlift Wing, in November 2022. Now, three years into his career at the 105th, he is dedicated to improving himself and his unit through his hard work.
Stevens is in the military pay section of the 105 CPTF. He works with the information that members see on their monthly leave and earning statements, including members pay, their entitlements and deductions, leave, deployed entitlements and more. He also works in customer service, where he helps 105 AW members in person, or via phone or email with questions they have regarding pay and CPTF duties, and he works with the comptroller service portal, helping members further.
“There are a lot of different systems that flow and really talk to each other to generate pay, so I make sure that everything works,” said Stevens.
Being a financial management technician is both enjoyable and rewarding, according to Stevens, but he also enjoys his role because of the people he gets to work with.
Stevens embodies all of the qualities of an outstanding airman, according to Senior Master Sgt. Anastasia Guard 105 CPTF Superintendent.
“His dedication to the mission, the 105th and its members is unparallel,” said Guard. “He is always the first one in and he will not leave for the day until the job is done, even if that means staying a little alter to make sure that all the members are taken care of”
Stevens was named the financial manager of the quarter in 2024 for filling a critical role as a military pay technician while the flight was undermanned. According to Guard, he learned the job and processed thousands of transactions with a 98% accuracy rate. Stevens was also awarded his first Air and Space Achievement Medal in December 2025 for his contribution to the flight.
Stevens plans to get his degree in accounting and sees himself branching off into another section of 105 CPTF, such as with quality assurance or accounting, but says he will be staying in finance for quite a while.
