Reservists assigned to the 512th Airlift Wing and their family members have mental health resources available to them through the Psychological Health Program.
The PHP provides free mental health services, including supportive counseling, crisis intervention, needs assessments, problem solving and consultation or referrals coordination.
Cassandra Rogers, 512th AW director of psychological health, said her office should be the first stop for reservists struggling with their mental health, and she is honored to serve reservists in her position.
“The people I love to serve is the military population, because they have unique challenges that they have to navigate,” she said. “My role as the embedded mental health professional is to be the subject matter expert for all things mental health.”
“She is a great resource available for our reservists and their families,” said Col. Eric J. Rivero, 512th AW commander. “We need each and every person at their best to succeed in our mission, and mental health is a key component of that.”
Rogers said when people are in a mental health crisis, it’s important they don’t bear the load alone.
“There is a stigma related to mental health, yet physical health is something people have no problem going to the doctor for,” she said. “I can assess and evaluate the needs of that person. They may think they are really struggling with their mental health, but after an assessment with me, they realize they are reacting normally to a lot of stress.
She added the services are anonymous, and nothing is annotated in the reservist’s electronic medical record except for issues that pose a serious threat to the reservist’s life or the wing mission.
In addition to clinical services, Rogers proactively advises wing leadership on mental health trends in their units.
“If a unit is about to deploy, that brings certain stressors,” she said. “I can consult with the leadership and help them get ahead of those issues before they become a serious problem.”
Reservists who are interested in Rogers’ services can visit her office at building 262, room 310 Monday through Friday and during unit training assembly weekends, or call her at (302) 677-5121 or (302) 535-0788.
