CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Every day on her deployment with Combined Joint Task Force–Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Amie Yeoman, the Directorate of Sustainment administrative noncommissioned officer in charge, supports operations across Iraq and Syria by coordinating meetings, managing schedules and routing key correspondence for the directorate’s senior leadership.

Despite being on her first deployment, Yeoman drives efficiency, fluidity and adaptability across CJTF-OIR sustainment activities, serving as a key organizer for the Directorate of Sustainment throughout the area of operations.

“She doesn’t just manage my schedule, she optimizes my day to make it as productive as possible,” said U.S. Army Col. Bradley May, the director of sustainment for CJTF-OIR.

Yeoman emphasizes the critical role the Directorate of Sustainment plays in mission success, illustrating how its efforts impact the broader CJTF-OIR operations.

“In a nutshell, the Directorate of Sustainment provides multifaceted support for CJTF-OIR, integrating human resources, financial management, logistics, contracting and engineering,” said Yeoman. “We facilitate, connect and communicate across all echelons—from the tactical and operational levels to the strategic levels. At our core, we sustain the mission by ensuring people have what they need: food, fuel and the ability to move.”

The coalition environment also broadens Yeoman’s understanding of the military, highlighting the importance of a joint environment in the success of CJTF-OIR.

“My favorite part of the job is the opportunity to talk and connect with people across the entire sustainment office and throughout CJTF-OIR,” she said. “I enjoy learning about each person’s life and their role here, how their work contributes to the mission and seeing how all those pieces come together allows me to see firsthand how the work we do in the office directly impacts operations outside of it.”

In addition, working alongside coalition members has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her deployment.

“Learning their customs, traditions and standards has been a great experience that has broadened my outlook on the military,” Yeoman said. “It’s also placed me in a different role than what I’m used to back home, and gaining those new experiences has been valuable—both for my growth now and for what I’ll take with me moving forward.”

Through her dedication, adaptability, and collaborative spirit, Yeoman exemplifies the vital role sustainment personnel and coalition members play in ensuring CJTF-OIR’s mission continues to be executed effectively across the region.
