FORT DRUM, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2025) -- Roughly 150 Soldiers and family members participated in a 5K run Oct. 2 in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and hosted by the Fort Drum Family Advocacy Program (FAP).

“This is our fifth year kicking off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a run, and it is our way of bringing people together and raising awareness about domestic violence,” said Tom Wojcikowski, Fort Drum Family Advocacy Program specialist.

More than just a morning run, Wojcikowski said this was an opportunity to talk with community members and share information available at the FAP booth. FAP victim advocacy services are available inside the Soldier and Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 10250 on 4th Armored Division Drive. For more information, call (315) 772-5605 or 772-8934.

The Fort Drum Crisis Hotline connects people with a trained professional victim advocate 24/7 at (315) 955-4321.

“We want to get that information out there for anybody who is in an unhealthy relationship, and they need assistance,” Wojcikowski said. “Additionally, we offer stress, anger management classes, and communication classes, for couples to take, and we also go out to units to conduct a healthy relationship class for them.”

Soldiers with E Company, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, supported the awareness run as part of their morning physical training. Capt. Aaron Crapsey, company commander, said it was important for Soldiers to be aware of how they can prevent domestic violence.

‘I think domestic violence is something that affects more Soldiers than we think it does,” he said. “And there a lot of underlying issues that may be involved, so making more people aware of that and putting the resources in their hands will help them get to a better spot before they make a bad decision.”
