Paratroopers assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade trained on how to set up complex communication systems in the field during Communicators Academy, held Oct. 14-16, 2025, at Caserma Del Din and Caserma Ederle.

Signal Corps service members assigned to the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade, Southern European Task Force Africa (SETAF-AF), and the 173rd Airborne Brigade learned how to set up networks, enhance mission command, and integrate command and control.

“It’s about building the readiness and resilience needed to maintain decision superiority in complex environments,” said 173rd Airborne Brigade signal officer Maj. James Cox.

Over three days, service members learned in the classroom, collaborated with leaders, and had hands-on training that tested network architecture design, electromagnetic spectrum management, and joint system interoperability.

Troops learned the Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) node configuration, Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) server management, Starshield connectivity validation, and Mission Management and Control System (MMCS) dashboard integration drills so they could be ready to handle the real-world demands of establishing and maintaining communications under operational conditions.

“We want soldiers to walk away confident in their ability to establish, defend, and operate within the network no matter the conditions,” Cox said.

The training culminated with the team rucking up the steep hillside of Mount Berico in Vicenza, Italy, with the communications equipment, and later setting up a brigade-level command post.

“This training ensures readiness and interoperability across our allied and joint networks,” Cox said. “That’s what keeps us connected, capable, and ready to jump, fight, and win together.”

Communication is key to ensuring units remain digitally proficient, interoperable, and ready to deploy anywhere in the world.
