COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brigadier General Linda J. Riedel of the South Carolina National Guard, who currently serves as assistant adjutant general for the Army, has been selected as the deputy commanding general (DCG) of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE). She is expected to begin this dual-hat role in January 2026.
A seasoned Signal Officer with over 30 years of dedicated service, Brig. Gen. Riedel brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Cyber Center of Excellence. She is a graduate of the Cyber War College at the National Defense University’s College of Information and Cyberspace. Riedel is South Carolina’s first commander of the 125th Cyber Protection Battalion. Her induction into the Citadel Academy of Engineers in April 2024 accentuates her commitment to innovation and technical excellence.
Brig. Gen. Riedel’s operational deployments include service in Kuwait supporting Operation Spartan Shield as the Deputy G6 Forward for US Army Central (ARCENT) in 2023, commanding Task Force Echo II under U.S. Army Cyber Command in 2018 and serving as the S1 in support of Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo (KFOR 16) in 2012. She also deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a Signal Platoon Leader.
Beyond her military service, Brig. Gen. Riedel currently serves as the Deputy Director of the DOD Cyber Institute at The Citadel. Previously, she was an Associate Professor of Military Science and the SCARNG Cyber Project Manager at the same institution. She holds a Master of Science degree in Government Information Leadership with a concentration in Strategic Cyberspace and Information Warfare, a Master of Science in Project Management, and a Bachelor of Arts.
“Brig. Gen. Riedel’s proven leadership and expertise in cyber operations will be invaluable to the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence,” South Carolina's Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Robin B. Stilwell said. “Riedel is a strategic thinker who truly understands the complexities of the cyber environment.”
Brig. Gen. Riedel actively participates in professional organizations, including the National Guard Association, the Signal Corps Regimental Association, the Military Cyber Professionals Association, and the Association of the United States Army.
