WASHINGTON D.C. (Sept 25, 2025) – The Navy has taken steps to reduce prolonged wait times for processing childcare fee assistance.

On Sept 12, 2025, Navy Child and Youth Program (CYP) notified families enrolled in the Navy’s Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood (MCCYN) fee assistance program of potential temporary delays in processing claims of up to 45 days due to staffing shortages.

To mitigate the impact, Navy CYP has implemented several measures, including bringing in temporary personnel to sustain operations and reduce backlogs, while expediting recruitment and onboarding of new staff. These measures are producing results, with processing times steadily improving. As of Sept. 24, claims are being processed in 20–25 days, and the program is on track to return to its standard 10–15 day timeline by October 2025.

“Providing Navy families with high-quality, affordable, and reliable child care remains a top priority,” said Maryann Coutino, director of Navy CYP. “We are committed to minimizing disruption for families and ensuring continued access to this important fee assistance.”

Families enrolled in Navy fee assistance programs with individual questions are encouraged to contact the support center through their MilitaryChildCare.com account.
