Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base, Indonesia – U.S. Air Force and Indonesian Air Force service members participated in Exercise Cope West 25 Sept. 8-12.

CW25 was a Pacific Air Forces-led bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and enhance the relationship between the two nations through cohesive tactical execution.

Approximately 120 service members forward deployed from Kadena Air Base, Japan, Yokota Air Base, Japan and Joint Base Pearl Harbor - Hickam, Hawaii to exchange and practice maintenance, flight operations and medical tactics.

“Cope West 25 is about pushing our jets and our aircrews to the edge of their envelopes alongside our Indonesian partners,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. John Blozinski, CW25 project officer. “Every fight out here is a chance to learn, adapt and prove that when it counts, we’ll dominate the skies.”

In addition to subject matter expert exchanges, this year’s exercise focused heavily on joint forces flying F-15E Strike Eagles and Indonesian F-16s as a unit.

“From the very beginning, I’ve seen progress even though we have been flying for only five days,” said Lt. Col. Bambang Aulia Yudhistira, Indonesian Air Force CW25 project officer. “We can fight alongside each other and that is really important. It’s a step forward to make the Indo-Pacific a better and safer area.”

A strong U.S. and Indonesian Air Force relationship is essential to promoting regional security, military modernization through joint training, and supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific.

“The partnership we’re building is not just about today’s sorties,” Blozinski said. “It’s about ensuring airpower credibility across the Indo-Pacific tomorrow.”

Interoperability between the U.S. and Indonesia is a strategic necessity in today’s global environment. As the Indo-Pacific grows in geopolitical importance, this partnership strengthens regional stability and ensures both air forces are prepared to operate side by side when it matters most.

“It has been a pleasure to host the Cope West here and we are looking forward to the next exercise,” Yudhistira said.
