FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Cpl. Edwin C. Martin, 18, killed during the Korean War, will be interred Sept. 27 in West Chester Cemetery in West Chester Township, Ohio. Hodapp Funeral Home will coordinate graveside services preceding the interment.
Martin, of Foster, Ohio, was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division when he was reported missing in action on Aug. 31, 1950 in the vicinity of Yongson, Republic of Korea (South Korea). He was never reported as a prisoner of war and subsequent searches of the battlefield failed to recover his remains. With no evidence of his continued survival, the Army issued a presumptive finding of death on Dec. 31, 1953. He was declared non-recoverable on Jan 16, 1956.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Martin on April 29, 2025.
