Command and General Staff College Phase 3: A Testament to Dedication and Excellence

    HAWAII, UNITED STATES

    09.07.2025

Story by Master Sgt. Ershwyn Thibou

    9th Mission Support Command

The Command and General Staff College (CGSC) instructors assigned to the 4960th Multi-Functional Training Brigade (MFTB), 9th Mission Support Command in Honolulu, Hawaii, completed phase 3 of the Intermediate Level Education Common Core (ILE-CC) on June 21, 2025. These dedicated professionals tirelessly strive for excellence in their students and for the U.S. Army.

For this latest course execution, the CGSC team successfully delivered phase 3. This phase built upon the foundations established in Phases 1 and 2, emphasizing joint operations and planning, and challenging officers to apply what they’ve learned in military operations and organizational contexts.

“The cohort demonstrated a high level of engagement, critical thinking, and teamwork through the course,” said Lt. Col. Keyonna Blassingame-Boggs, a MFTB CGSC instructor.

ILE-CC transitions field grade officers from tactical to operational-level thinkers, laying the foundation for strategic decision-making and leadership in joint environments.

“Phase 3 was successfully completed by 28 officers representing the Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard components,” said Lt. Col Blassingame-Boggs. Completion of ILE-CC Phase 3 prepares officers for key field-grade assignments such as battalion executive officer, brigade staff, or joint staff roles.

The dedication of the CGSC staff, whether on the podium or behind the scenes, facilitated a robust and interactive academic experience for the students. Instructors must thoroughly understand and make palatable the core Joint Doctrine, Army Planning Processes, Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), and Joint Operations Planning Process to guide discussions, practical exercises, and INDOPACOM scenarios confidently.

“Students excelled during the capstone exercise, applying joint operational concepts to a simulated Indo-Pacific scenario – sharpening their ability to lead in today’s complex, multi-domain environment,” said Lt. Col Blassingame-Boggs.

This demonstration of driving commitment toward success by CGSC instructors and their support personnel required countless hours of administrative actions, and execution. CGSC Phase 3 is a testament to the synergy between students and staff – a partnership rooted in hard work, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence.

4960 MFTB CGSC continues to provide excellent instruction for its ILE-CC and began its resident Phase 1 at the 9th Mission Support Command’s 4960th Multi-Functional Training Brigade facility located at Fort Shafter Flats, Honolulu, Hawaii, on September 6, 2025.
