Insurgents open-fire on ANP patrol, injure four including Paktia villager
PAKTIA, Afghanistan – Local villagers were working to repair a washed-out bridge in Amad Kheyl village, Paktia province Aug. 14 when insurgents fired upon an Afghan National Police patrol passing nearby, wounding one local villager and three ANP officers.
The ANP brought their wounded officers and the villager to a forward operating base in the area where they were treated by U.S. medical personnel. Two ANP officers were released after treatment, but the civilian and one officer were medically evacuated to an Afghan National Army hospital in Gardez.
“This insurgent attack is the second in as many days that have caught Paktia civilians in the crossfire,” said Lt. Col. Donald Franklin, Special Operations Task Force-East commander.
Two local nationals were injured Friday when an improvised explosive device detonated as Afghan border police patrolled near Chamkani, Paktia province.
“Local nationals are unfortunately paying the price for indiscriminate insurgent attacks,” said Franklin.
