    Col. Brooks Assumes Command of 134th Operations Group

    MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. — Colonel Benjamin Brooks assumed command of the 134th Operations Group during a ceremony held August 3, 2025 at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base. The event marked a pivotal moment for the unit’s operational future.

    With over two decades of service, Colonel Brooks brings a proven track record in leadership, operational logistics, and aircraft maintenance. With experience as a command pilot with the KC-135R Stratotanker, Brooks developed a strategic mission-first mindset.

    “This group has a strong tradition of excellence, and I am both honored and humbled to be entrusted with leading such an exceptional team,” said Colonel Brooks during his address to the formation. “My plan is to build on this positive environment that allows leaders to grow as we prepare to meet the challenges ahead.”

    Brooks previously served in multiple leadership roles within the Air National Guard, where he built a reputation for forging cohesive teams and streamlining complex maintenance and flight operations. His deep knowledge of multiple aircraft capabilities and operational requirements has made him a key contributor during both overseas deployments and homeland missions.

    Because of Brooks outstanding record, 134th Air Refueling Wing Commander Colonel Ron L. Selvidge has confidence in Brooks' ability to perform well in this critical role. “Colonel Brooks' efforts are entrenched in some of the wing's strongest achievements over the last 15 years. His practical knowledge and proven leadership will serve the 134th Operations Group well as they support both our statewide and national defense objectives.”

    The 134th Operations Group plays a vital role in global air refueling and mobility operations. The units’ tradition of excellence while adapting to the evolving demands of modern air operations. Colonel Bryan Hooks, the outgoing commander, praised the incoming leader during his farewell remarks. “Ben Brooks exemplifies the type of leader our Airmen deserve. He listens and leads with integrity, while bringing unmatched experience to this organization. I know the 134th Operations Group is in great hands moving forward.”

    As the ceremony concluded, Brooks reaffirmed his commitment to mission excellence and Airman welfare. “Every mission, and every training event is a step toward ensuring our nation’s defense. We are going to provide all the resources we can, to allow our Airmen to grow and flourish as we accomplish that mission.”

    By supporting rapid growth mobility with mission-driven focus, Colonel Brooks and the 134th Operations Group are fully suited to take on any mission with capable personnel and world-class leadership.
