NORAD aircraft conduct bi-national training missions over Alaska

An ever-changing global and Arctic environment continues to emphasize the importance of a singular, bi-national command with the sole focus of defending the United States and Canada from all approaches and all domains.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) demonstrated its ability to conduct those homeland defense missions July 9-10 with training missions over Adak and Little Diomede Island, Alaska.

These training missions ensure readiness to respond to significant, persistent threats from multiple vectors, including air, maritime and space domains. Participating NORAD aircraft included the U.S. F-16 Fighting Falcon and KC-135 Stratotanker, and Canadian CF-18 Hornet and CC-150 Polaris.

Aircraft from both nations flew training missions over Alaska’s vast region, demonstrating the seamless integration of NORAD forces in the defense of North America. These operations reflect NORAD’s ability and commitment to ensure the homelands are defended from threats and adversary influence, while maintaining the national security of North America through strong partnerships and presence.

“Bi-national operations are critical to our ability to fulfill NORAD’s mission of providing aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning in defense of North America.” said Royal Canadian Air Force Major-General David Moar, Deputy Commander, Alaskan NORAD Region. “The Alaskan region is vast and strategically essential to both continental and global security. As we conduct seamlessly integrated operations at the furthest reaches of the Alaskan NORAD Region, we are reminded of the strength of the enduring partnership between Canada and the United States.”

Canadian CF-18 Hornets and CC-150 Polars operating in Alaska underscores the bi-national nature of NORAD’s operations and the close integration of forces from both nations. This partnership is vital to maintaining the security and stability of North America, ensuring that both nations remain prepared to address emerging challenges in the Arctic and beyond.

As NORAD continues to adapt to evolving threats, these training missions serve as a testament to the strength of the U.S.-Canada partnership and the shared commitment to defending the homelands.
