VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Cmdr. Carnell Aurelio relieved Cmdr. Brendan Casey as commanding officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit TWO (ESU-2) during a change of command ceremony at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, July 31, 2025.

The ceremony marked a formal transition of leadership for the unit, which supports the Navy’s expeditionary EOD and mobile diving and salvage forces with critical logistics, maintenance, and operational readiness services across the globe.

Casey, who has led ESU-2 since 2023, reflected on the unit’s accomplishments under his command.

"It has been an honor to lead such a dedicated and mission-focused team,” said Casey. “Their tireless efforts directly enhance the readiness of our EOD and diving forces, ensuring they remain ready to respond anywhere in the world.”

Aurelio, previously assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, brings a wealth of operational and leadership experience to the role.

"I am humbled and honored to join the ESU-2 family and to continue the standard of excellence set by Cmdr. Casey and the team,” said Aurelio. “This unit’s support is the backbone of EOD expeditionary operations, and I look forward to serving with these warfighters as we enable the EOD community’s lethal force and projection of strength to defend our country.”

Established in 2006, ESU-2 provides maintenance, logistics, supply, transportation, and expeditionary support to EOD and Navy diving units. The unit's mission is to ensure combat effectiveness and global readiness for these forces by delivering responsive and sustained support wherever they are deployed.

The change of command is a time-honored Navy tradition that formally transfers authority and responsibility from one officer to another.
