PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii – The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group (VINCSG) arrived in Pearl Harbor for a scheduled port visit, July 30.

The arrival of the strike group marks the first port visit in 125 days for the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), following over three months of sustained operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

“Our time in the U.S. 5th Fleet demanded focus, flexibility and precision across every unit of the CSG-1 team," said Rear Adm. Amy Bauernschmidt, commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1. “This port visit will give our Sailors a meaningful opportunity to reset in a place that shares deep ties to our Navy’s heritage before we return to sea.”

While in port, Sailors will have opportunities to take advantage of base amenities and enjoy time to explore Hawaii’s culture and history.

“On behalf of ‘America’s Favorite’ aircraft carrier, we are excited to be back on U.S. soil and honored to return to the Aloha State,” said Capt. Matthew Thomas, Vinson’s commanding officer. “We are incredibly grateful to the people of Hawaii for being our gracious hosts visit after visit, and our Sailors look forward to some well-deserved rest and relaxation after a long time away at sea.”

VINCSG consists of Vinson, embarked staffs of CSG-1 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 1, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2, the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104).

CVW-2 is composed of nine squadrons flying the F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, EA-18G Growler, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, CMV-22B Osprey and MH-60R/S Sea Hawks.

VINCSG is operating in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations. An integral part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet leads naval forces in the Indo-Pacific and provides the realistic, relevant training necessary to execute the U.S. Navy's role across the full spectrum of military operations. U.S. 3rd Fleet works together with allies and partners to advance freedom of navigation and overflight, the rule of law and other principles that underpin security for the Indo-Pacific region.
