Grand Opening of the First Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience Kitchen at MCAS Cherry Point

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point established the first Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience kitchen in the Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 barracks, featuring a fully remodeled kitchen setup including a new stove, fridge, pots, pans and other kitchenware to encourage better nutrition and healthy meal preparation. Marine Corps Community Services and Headquarters Marine Corps partnered up to provide Marines with specialized cookbooks, classes, and training to educate them on ways to incorporate healthy eating into their daily life.

In October 2023, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, launched the Marine Corps Total Fitness Strategic Plan to enhance readiness and resilience through a modern, integrated approach to physical, mental, spiritual, and social fitness. The plan aims to support the quality of life and closing service gaps for Marines.

In line with this vision, the Marine & Family Programs Division developed the WARR program. WARR supports the Commandant’s four pillars and includes essential elements like leadership, nutrition, education, and core values to improve overall fitness and performance for Marines and their families.

U.S. Marine Corps Col. Brendan C. Burks, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, gave opening remarks during the grand opening ceremony for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2’s newly renovated kitchen. Marines that attended received a kitchen tour as well as free healthy food samples.
