NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, Sicily (July 16, 2025) – Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella (FLCSI) will celebrate the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps 250th birthdays this year while also recognizing the six years of military service of one of their very own, Sgt. Sean Shippee.
Shippee, from Stafford, Virginia, enlisted March 18, 2019, to carry on his family’s legacy in the service. He has proudly served at NAVSUP FLCIS for the past two and a half years.
“Sgt. Shippee exemplifies the highest standards of the Corps through unwavering dedication, integrity, and leadership,” said Chief Retail Specialist Vanessa Anderson, Fleet Mail Center leading chief petty officer. “Whether it’s here at the post office, or helping within our regional command, or supporting fellow Marines, he consistently goes above and beyond what is expected.”
According to Anderson, Shippee is a positive force at the command. He mentors junior Sailors and Marines in their careers.
Shippee stated that his proudest accomplishments in the service is the positive impact he leaves on Marines and Sailors that serve under him.
“To me, being a Marine means living by a code — one that demands excellence, self-discipline, and sacrifice,” Shippee said. “It means showing up when it’s hard, pushing through challenges, and always putting the mission and my fellow Marines before myself. It’s about protecting this country and the people who live in it, even if they never see the sacrifices being made behind the scenes.”
Shippee is a custodian of postal effects at FLCSI. His responsibilities include conducting secure inventories of mail and postal funds; overseeing daily mail operations—receiving, sorting, dispatching, and delivering mail, as well as supervising postal clerks to ensure proper procedure is followed. Shippee is also responsible for financial transactions at FLCSI, and is the liaison between military personnel and the USPS.
“My role carries legal, financial, and operational responsibility, so attention to detail and integrity are essential at all times,” Shippee said.
Shippee would like people to know about the military is that “…being a United States Marine is more than just wearing a uniform — it’s a way of life. The job isn’t easy, and it’s not supposed to be. We are trained to be ready at any moment to respond to crises, protect our nation, and support our fellow Marines. That kind of readiness takes discipline, mental toughness, and a deep sense of purpose.”
When he’s not working, you can find Shippee working out and spending time with his two dogs.
Shippee’s favorite inspirational quote comes from his father, Master Gunnery Sgt. Nelson B. Shippee, “You do not do things just to achieve an award, you do it to leave an impact to those around you.”
