Two American soldiers and one Marine died in Iraq today in two separate incidents, and another Marine was killed Sept. 1, U.S. officials reported.
The two Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers were killed in the eastern part of the city, officials said, when the vehicle they were riding in encountered an improvised explosive device.
The Marine, assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7, was killed today in action against the enemy in Anbar province, officials said.
Another U.S. Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died during anti-terrorist operations in Anbar province on Sept. 1.
The names of the deceased servicemembers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
DoD officials have identified the following previous casualties:
-- Army Sgt. Moises Jazmin, 25, of Providence; Army Spc. Qixing Lee, 20, of Minneapolis; Army Spc. Shaun A. Novak, 21, of Two Rivers, Wis.; and Army Spc. Tristan C. Smith, 23, of Bryn Athyn, Pa., died Aug. 27 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their M2A3 Bradley fighting vehicle during combat operations. All were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
-- Marine Cpl. Christopher T. Warndorf, 21, of Burlington, Ky., died Aug. 29 while conducting combat operations in Anbar province. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
-- Marine Lance Cpl. Colin J. Wolfe, 18, of Manassas, Va., died Aug. 30 while conducting combat operations in Anbar province. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
-- Army Sgt. Joshua R. Hanson, 27, of West St. Paul, Minn., died Aug. 30 in Khaldea, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Hanson was assigned to the National Guard 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
