Two American soldiers were killed and one was wounded Oct. 18 in Iraq during an insurgent-mounted ambush that took place west of Kirkuk, according to a U.S. Central Command news release.

The wounded soldier, according to the release, was evacuated for medical treatment. The soldiers' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The soldiers, part of Task Force Ironhorse, came under small-arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire, the release stated.

    The incident is under investigation.

Task Force Ironhorse personnel look for outlawed weaponry, ammunition and contraband, according to CENTCOM officials.
