CAMP ATTERBURY JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ind. – Two Soldiers with the Puerto Rico National Guard's Company A, 296th Infantry Regiment, married their significant others during a ceremony at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center's Post Chapel June 2.

The Camp Atterbury Post Chapel is one of the few remaining structures still standing on the camp since it first opened its gates in World War II.

The Soldiers were on a four-day pass after completing mobilization training in preparation for deployment to Kosovo for the 13th rotation of the Kosovo Forces peace-keeping mission.

Spc. Alvin Rivera and Spc. Reynaldo Alicea married their fiancées Caridad and Myrna, who traveled from Puerto Rico to Camp Atterbury for the ceremony.

"We just couldn't wait anymore," said Rivera. "We planned on waiting until I got home [from deployment] to marry. I didn't realize I'd have a pass," he said. "When I found out I would have a couple of days off, I called her to get here to Indiana. The chaplain helped us to [get] our paperwork."

The couple spent the remainder of Rivera's four-day pass together on their honeymoon in Indianapolis.

"Typically, the marriages are short and informal when held at the chapel," said Camp Atterbury Post Chaplain Lt. Col. Rick Ebb. "Soldiers will have their friends from their units in attendance, and it creates a very positive military family environment. That's one of the things I like to see."

"You see couples that were planning on getting married eventually, but one of them is called up for deployment," said Ebb. "They simply move forward their timetable for the marriage." More than 700 Soldiers from 19 states and territories trained at Camp Atterbury for the deployment to Kosovo as Task Force Falcon.
